APEH
Since 2005 January Sysman experts has been operating the Oracle
databases of APEH (Hungarian Tax and Financial Control Administration)
Continuous.
The next activities are done:
Oracle database environment operation tasks (Oracle DBA)
In case of database establishment
- Implementation of Oracle software;
- Database establishment
- Proper implementation and maintenance of the physical and
logical
structure of the database (table area, data files, mirroring,
etc.)
- Object storage handling (tables, indexes, lobs, etc.);
Daily operation tasks
- Database starting, stopping and restarting
- Handling database users and passwords;
- Administration of network connection of database (network name unlock,
listener, configuration of dedicated or shared server mode);
- Proper usage of the computer’s resources (monitoring of capacity
reaching of the hard-disk, correct memory allocation);
- Regular backing up of database and restore if necessary (daily, weekly,
monthly and quarterly backup tasks, yearly backup and archiving tasks);
- Handling of database protection (checking, download, testing,
implementing the security corrections);
- Database tuning (checking free space, monitoring the size of table
area,
File I/O activities, Lock-ok, performance monitoring, index
monitoring
and maintenance, checking the rollback segments, checking
extents,
SGA - System Global Area monitoring, table checking,
reorganization
of tables and table area);
- New patch implementation on database software;
- Database monitoring, monitoring of warning and follow-up files,
error handling;
- Preparing reports and statistics;
- Documenting changes, maintenance of operational documentation;
Oracle error qualification and formal error reporting
During working hours in case of error: error qualification and the
formal report filled with the necessary technical content (in case of
database error Oracle (TAR)), clarifications, logs gathering, further
handling.
Error identification, information gathering
Operation information and log gathering for the effective
troubleshooting and error reporting.
Handling operational problems
Troubleshooting on the spot in case of errors occurring during the
daily operation (eg: table space increasing in order to avoid downtime)
and cooperation with experts providing external support in order to
avoid similar errors in the future.
Troubleshooting in case of errors
resulting from misuse of tools or parameters
In case of errors resulting from misuse of tools or parameters in the
systems the main goal is the prompt troubleshooting and the restoration
of the normal operation. In case of error the goal is to search for the
root cause and afterwards the troubleshooting.
Supporting the
automation of the operation
Automation of the operation covers partly the automation of the above
mentioned tasks, and the automation of necessary activities in the
course of operation which activities are not mentioned here, and also
covers the automation of the alerts. This can be performed by using
auxiliary programs, scripts, and further tools given or proposed for
the system.
Patching and updating the systems
Implementation of Oracle proactive suggestions (patching,
implementation of updates, etc.). Furthermore, it is necessary to
continuously check the released updates, corrections in connection with
the operated Oracle systems. In case of newly released patch or update,
it is necessary to examine if it is needed for the operating system or
if there is any component affected by them. In case of an affected
component in the system the patch or update/release must be tested
according to the change management process and the introduction must be
made accepted.
Cooperation with Oracle developers
It is necessary to cooperate with every internal and external projects
affecting the operation of the Oracle database environment from the
viewpoint of the takeover of change to the operation.
